Veterinary Disclaimer
Last updated: Jun 22, 2026
Your animal's health is too important to leave to a website alone. Database.pet exists to help you make informed decisions, but it can never replace hands-on care from a qualified veterinarian who knows your animal. This disclaimer explains the limits of the information we provide.
1. Information, not veterinary advice
The content on Database.pet is educational and general in nature. It is not, and must not be treated as, professional veterinary advice, diagnosis or treatment. Reading a profile here does not create a veterinarian-client-patient relationship between you and any contributor. Only a veterinarian who can physically examine your animal can give advice tailored to its species, breed, age, weight, medications and medical history.
2. In an emergency, act immediately
If you suspect your animal has eaten something dangerous, or it is showing symptoms such as vomiting, tremors, collapse, difficulty breathing or seizures, do not wait and do not rely on this website. Contact your veterinarian, the nearest emergency animal hospital, or an animal poison control hotline right away. Time is critical in poisoning cases. Regional emergency numbers are listed on our Vet Directory.
3. Every animal is different
Safety is rarely absolute. A food that is harmless for one animal may be dangerous for another because of differences in species, size, age, breed, pre-existing conditions, allergies or the quantity consumed. Our verdicts describe the general clinical picture; they cannot account for your individual animal's circumstances.
4. Evidence-based but evolving
Our profiles are built from peer-reviewed veterinary literature, poison-control case data and recognised clinical references, and each is reviewed by a qualified professional. Nevertheless, veterinary toxicology is an evolving field. New evidence may change recommendations, and we update our content as the science develops.
5. No veterinarian-client-patient relationship
Using this site, contacting us, or reading content authored or reviewed by our veterinary contributors does not establish a professional relationship and does not obligate any veterinarian to provide you with care. Our reviewers ensure editorial accuracy; they are not your animal's treating veterinarian.
6. Use at your own risk
You assume full responsibility for any decisions you make based on information found on Database.pet. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we accept no liability for any loss, injury or harm — including to an animal — arising from reliance on our content.
7. When in doubt, consult a professional
If you are ever uncertain about whether a food is safe, how much is too much, or whether a symptom is serious, treat it as a reason to call your veterinarian. Professional guidance is always the safest course of action.
