Database.pet does not require you to create an account, and we do not ask for your name, email address or payment details to browse the database. The only information we process automatically is anonymous, aggregated usage data: the pages you visit, the search terms you enter, the food and species combinations you view, and the anonymous helpfulness votes you submit. This data is never linked to your identity.

2. How we use your information

We use anonymous usage data for a single purpose: to make the database better. It tells us which food profiles are most requested so our veterinary team can prioritise reviews, which searches return no results so we can fill gaps, and which articles owners find helpful. We never use your data for advertising profiles, and we never sell, rent or trade it.

3. Legal basis for processing

Where the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) applies, our lawful basis for processing anonymous analytics is our legitimate interest in operating, securing and improving a free public-interest resource. Because the data is anonymised and cannot identify you, the impact on your privacy is minimal. Where required, analytics that use cookies are only activated with your consent.

We use one essential cookie to remember the language you selected so the site loads in your preferred language on your next visit. Because we operate without accounts and process only anonymous data, we usually hold no information that identifies you. The site is served exclusively over encrypted HTTPS connections. We follow industry-standard security practices, keep our software patched, and minimise the data we collect in the first place — the most effective protection is simply not holding sensitive data.

10. International data transfers

Database.pet serves owners in many countries and twelve languages. Any anonymous data processed by our service providers may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your own. Where this occurs, we rely on recognised safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.
